Highlights of the role
 
Join EPCOR’s San Tan District Field Operations team as a Utility Worker Intern and gain handson experience supporting the essential work that keeps our water distribution and wastewater collection systems operating safely and reliably. Under the guidance of experienced Utility Technicians and Field Operations Supervisors, you’ll assist with field inspections, maintenance support, sampling activities, and operational tasks that directly contribute to protecting public health and serving our community.
 
This fulltime, paid summer internship provides exposure to water and wastewater infrastructure, utility maintenance practices, and realworld field operations. It’s an excellent opportunity to explore a career in utilities while developing practical skills in a supportive, safetyfocused environment.
 
Internship Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026
 
What you’ll be responsible for 
  • Assist with basic field maintenance activities such as fire hydrant inspections, valve exercising, and meter-related tasks under supervision
  • Support field activities including system flushing, water quality sampling, and flow testing with guidance from experienced technicians
  • Learn about wastewater collection systems and assist with inspections, manhole assessments, and cleaning support alongside trained staff
  • Assist with utility locating, meter reading, and service order tasks as needed
  • Support documentation of field work, inspection results, and service activities using EPCOR’s systems and tools
  • Participate in field walks to learn how water distribution and wastewater collection systems are built and maintained
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE and adherence to traffic control and confined space procedures
  • Work collaboratively with team members across Field Operations and customer service roles
  • Support other field operations projects and responsibilities as requested
 
What’s required to be successful
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from high school, a technical program, or a waterrelated program
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn EPCOR’s systems for service orders and documentation
  • Interest in learning about water distribution systems, field tools, and maintenance practices
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions, including high heat
  • Ability to perform handson tasks safely, with team assistance for heavier work
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with field teams and customers
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a safetyfirst mindset
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
